Adrenal

Adrenal glands produce hormones which impact nearly every organ in the body. They are small, triangular glands located on top of both kidneys which consist of the medulla (inner part) and the cortex (outer part). Adrenal glands secrete the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which serve to control blood pressure, help the body deal with stress, break down fats and proteins to make sugar in the liver and affect sexual development and reproduction.

Below are diseases & conditions associated with the adrenal glands.

Addison’s Disease 

Condition that develops when the adrenal glands,do not produce enough of the hormone cortisol.

Cushings Syndrome 

Disorder that develops when the body is exposed to high levels of the hormone cortisol.

Pheochromocytoma

Tumor of the medulla of the adrenal glands which produce too much adrenaline.

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia 

Genetic disorder in which the adrenal glands don't produce vital steroid hormones (corticosteroids)

Cancer of the Adrenal Gland

Rare cancer that develops when tumors in the adrenal glands produce excess hormones.

Adrenal Incidentaloma

A mass discovered unexpectedly during abdominal imaging for non-adrenal related causes.
