Men's Health

Men's HealthMen have unique health issues that demand special consideration and expert care. Yet too often, the health concerns specific to men don’t receive the attention they deserve. NorthShore University HealthSystem provides innovative, personalized healthcare for men throughout all stages of life. At our four hospital campuses in EvanstonGlenbrookHighland Park and Skokie, we offer the specialized resources—prevention, screenings, diagnosis and treatment—that men need to stay as healthy as possible.

Most of the health problems that men face are related to specific behaviors. When you think about it, that’s good news because it means that most of men’s health problems are preventable.

Changing a few basic behaviors can help you avoid these problems. Of course, the first and most important steps you should consider are eating healthy foodsgetting enough exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. Then, keep these in mind, as well:

• Don’t smoke • Manage the stress in your life  • Get plenty of sleep
• Use seatbelts and drive safely • Protect yourself from the sun • Wash your hands often

Be sure to see your doctor regularly for check-ups and immunizations. Screenings play a key role in protecting your health because they can detect diseases early on when they are most treatable. As important as that is, a recent study showed that three times more men than women failed to visit a physician within the previous year.
